TITLE DAYS OF BEING WILD
MEDIUM HAND BLOWN NEON, SUSPENDED AND WALL MOUNTED
DIMENSIONS SECTIONS VARY
‘DAYS OF BEING WILD’ is a Neon environment inspired by the Hong Kong location films of Wong Kar Wai. This series of Neon sculptures was created in conversation with Viridian’s interior design concept from Soon and Soon Studio. The brief was to work from the color-drenched Neon shots of Hong Kong, as captured by Wong Kar Wai in some of the owners’ favorite films: Days of Being Wild, Hong Kong Nights, etc. Inspiration for the wall mounted back bar sculpture ‘Night Window’ evolved from imagining what the view might look like from a very special club, high up in a Hong Kong high rise, overlooking the tremendously influential Neon landscape of one of the world's greatest cities.
The suspended installation over the front door, titled ‘The Lovers’ is core Wong Kar Wai; his movies always revolve around love stories deeply entwined with the Hong Kong cityscape where he captured them. The back of the space features a floating collection of neon shapes that exist in gentle, drifting clusters around Kartell lights laid out by the artist. These shapes take the personality of individuals tracing loops and patterns as they share a neighborhood, and small but potentially impactful aspects of life where they overlap.
Each Neon shape has it’s own logic and sense of relationship to the shapes around it; the interactions of which are best appreciated over a Golden Triangle .
NB: Table dividers and ‘Rona Reflectors’ designed & fabricated by RITE GUY for use during the pandemic.
